Removable Appliance in Orthodontics

Synopsis

This course focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of removable appliances in orthodontics, covering their design, construction, application, and clinical management. The course is ideal for dental students, orthodontists, and dental practitioners who wish to deepen their knowledge and skills in removable orthodontic techniques. This module will be delivered by live sessions on the 2nd and 3rd September 2025, 2-5pm (Malaysia time), or you can watch the recorded sessions at your convenience. Certificate will be issued according to the enrolment plan.

Objective

Participants will learn the principles of using removable orthodontic devices to correct malocclusions, enhance aesthetics, and improve function.

Learning Outcome

At the end of the module, the participants will be able to learn: 

  1. selecting cases suitable for removable appliance 
  2. different types of removable appliance and design
  3. instruction on wear and care of the appliance
  4. tips on detecting patient’s compliance troubleshoot problems encountered in the clinic

DR. NOOR AYUNI BINTI AHMAD SHAFIAI

Dr Noor Ayuni received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Glasgow in 2007 and started her career as dental officer with MOH since then. Six years later, she joined IPPT, USM, and completed her dental specialist clinical training in orthodontics at UKM in 2017. She was appointed as Head of General Dentistry from 2019-2021, and currently is the Head Department of Dental Science. Besides practicing orthodontic specialty at Pusat Perubatan USM Bertam, she is actively involved in postgraduate supervision, research and community service. Her main research interest are orthodontics, biomaterials and dental awareness. She has been awarded Short Term Grant and allocation for project of ‘Libatsama Universiti-Komuniti’ from the university, as well as Fundamental Research Grant Scheme from MOHE.

DR ANIS FARHAN BINTI KAMARUDDIN

Dr Anis Kamaruddin completed her specialty training in orthodontics at King's College London in 2012, where she was awarded a distinction in both theory and clinical. She was appointed as Head of the Dental Section from 2013 until 2015 and currently is the Head of the Orthodontics & Craniofacial Deformities Unit. She is actively involved in treating orthodontic patients, teaching, postgraduate monitoring and supervision, research and publication. Her main areas of interest are craniofacial genetics, digital dentistry, and orthodontic materials, for which she had been awarded internal and national grants for her research.
